Happiest of greetings to you all, Dear Readers!
I’m writing this post extra early because I have a super busy weekend ahead of me. Tomorrow is the wedding day of one of my dearest friends from university, and I am beyond excited! You all know me well enough by now to know that any display of True Love is something I’m a HUGE fan of, and to watch my friend become a wife is going to be something particularly special. I remember the beginning of her relationship with her almost husband, I remember comparing their story to that of a certain Elizabeth and Darcy, and I could not be any happier for the two of them! They are amazing together, and they are a real inspiration to me as a couple – you can tell that they love each other so deeply, but they also respect each other…and that is one of the most important components of True and Lasting Love, in my opinion!
So, I’m getting ready for a love-filled weekend, especially because I plan to spend all of Sunday with my own significant other…and I admit, I might spend a little bit of this time daydreaming about one day having a similar celebration with him! Who knows?! Stranger things than this have happened to a girl with a green heart! 😉
Anyway, on to the purpose of this post: the #JNGReads quotes that have been selected from my Twitter page to feature on the blog this week. Obviously, I love Love, and I spend a lot of time talking and thinking about how much I love other people and their love stories. But my other great love, as you all know, is books. Not just “literature” as an idea, but actual, physical books…with pages and covers. I’ve never been a fan of ereaders or tablets or electronic mediums for reading books, and I don’t see myself buying one in the near future. To me, nothing can ever replace the smell of a book, and the feel of it in your hands, and the ability to fold down the pages (blasphemy to some, I know) and highlight certain quotes and make detailed notes. I adore libraries…I could sit in them for hours on end, and that is because I like to be surrounded by pages, both old and new. I love the feel of cracking open a book for the first time, of being the first human to ever flip through the paper. But, I also love old books, worn with time and usage, books that are practically falling apart because they have been so well loved. I alternately like keeping my books pristine and perfect, and marking them up, shading them with pens to suit my moods, adding comments to remind myself of what exactly I was feeling when I delved into them for the first time.
And, this brings me to the two quotes I have chosen for this week’s post, again from Azar Nafisi’s Reading Lolita in Tehran (this book just gets me!). Nafisi’s feelings for books accurately reflect what I am drawn to, and the passion that inspired me to create this very blog in the first place.
“…the dearer a book was to my heart, the more battered and bruised it became.”
“This is how you read a novel: you inhale the experience.”
– Reading Lolita in Tehran, Azar Nafisi
There are many types of love in this world, and this weekend I’m celebrating all of them! I encourage you all to start your summer by doing the same! ❤
