This is just a quick post to let you all know what I got up to for Halloween this weekend.
When I went shopping 2 weeks ago for a costume for a Halloween birthday party, I truly had no idea what I wanted to dress up as. I figured I would just browse through the stores and see what caught my eye. Although I enjoy Halloween, it’s not my favourite day of the year (that would be Christmas, naturally), so I’m usually one to pick costumes that are easy to wear and simple put together.
I was shopping with my fiancé when I came across the perfect outfit and I immediately fell in love with it. Since I am particularly fond of green, as soon as I saw the one-piece Poison Ivy costume, with the bold ivy and rose designs, I knew I had to have it. My fiancé figured he could easily find a Batman costume somewhere (which he did later that day) and voila, we had a couples costume all lined up.
What was interesting is that finding this Poison Ivy costume reminded me of a comic I had seen advertised recently. My fiancé and I are currently obsessed with the Netflix show Riverdale, and while I don’t read comics anymore because I find them a bit hard to follow, I was a huge fan of the Archie comics when I was a kid and my mom would pick me up an issue every time we went grocery shopping. I remembered, on that day we went Halloween costume shopping, that I had seen a comic advertised on Twitter, in which Betty and Veronica (of Riverdale/the Archie comics) meet Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy – the perfect blend of two awesome DC worlds. I decided to pick up the first issue of this comic that very day, and I put it aside to read this weekend as a Halloween treat!
There’s not very much for me to review about this comic because, as it turns out, one issue of a comic has about 10 pages. That being said, it was super cute and sets up the story really nicely: it looks like Betty and Veronica will have their hands full as Harley and Ivy invade Riverdale to try to persuade Veronica’s father away from building over Sweetwater Swamp. What’s cutest about this first issue is that B and V are struggling to figure out what to wear to a costume party they are attending, and they finally settle on Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy costumes, only to arrive at the party and see the real Harley and Ivy dressed in almost identical outfits. I had no idea the first issue would have a Halloween element to it, but it worked out so nicely because it made me even more excited about my Poison Ivy outfit! And, I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this particular comic because I am so fond of both the Riverdale and Batman characters and I think it is incredibly unique to bring these two seemingly unrelated worlds together. So, if you like comics and are a fan of either Riverdale or Batman (or both), I’d definitely recommend picking up “Harley and Ivy met Betty and Veronica” because the art is great, the story is fun and the characters are familiar and hilarious!
Happy Halloween everyone!
What are you dressing up as this year?
